Compress Image to an Exact KB Size — 20KB, 50KB, 100KB

To compress an image to an exact KB size, type the target — 20, 50, or 100 — in SnapShrink’s Target KB field. The engine binary-searches quality until the file fits at or under that size. It runs 100% in your browser; nothing ever uploads.

How it works

  1. Open the SnapShrink tool — no signup.
  2. Drop a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF.
  3. Type your target (for example 20, 50, or 100) in Target KB, compress, and download.

Common targets

20KB

Common for India exam and UPSC-style photo uploads with very tight size caps. Type 20 and let target mode find the fit.

50KB

Used by many government and banking portals that sit between passport-photo limits and general web caps.

100KB

The general-purpose portal and visa cap. Prefer the dedicated compress image to 100KB page when that exact limit is the whole job.

Frequently asked questions

Exact KB vs the quality slider — which should I use?

Use Target KB when a form demands a hard size (20KB, 50KB, 100KB). Use the quality slider when you care more about how the image looks than hitting a number. Target mode binary-searches quality so you do not guess.

Do dimensions change when I set a target KB?

Quality is searched first. If quality alone cannot hit the cap, SnapShrink gently downscales (never below a readable minimum) and searches again. Most photos hit common caps without shrinking much.

What are the free limits?

The first 10 images per browser session are free with every feature, including Target KB. Unlimited compression is a one-time $9 Pro license — no subscription.

Is anything uploaded when I compress to an exact KB size?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Open DevTools → Network while compressing and you will see zero file uploads.

Which formats work with target-KB mode?

Drop JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF. For photos, WebP or JPEG usually reach the cap with the best quality. Use JPEG when a portal requires it; PNG is better for sharp text and signatures.

Can I compress multiple images to the same KB target?

Yes. Drop a whole batch, set the Target KB once, and each file is processed individually. Download them as a ZIP when the batch finishes.
